Introduction
The program allows you to calculate the properties of an air-water mixture and represent them graphically as a series of points on a dynamically generated psychrometric chart.
The psychrometric chart is highly customizable (colors, graduation steps, visibility and limits of the various properties) and easily sharable as an image or link.
The application is implemented totally in front-end as a Progressive Web App (PWA) and therefore, once installed, it can work offline on both mobile and desktop; there is also a multilingual implementation (currently Italian and English).
The graph allows zooming, scrolling and dynamic resizing; moreover clicking any point provides the main physical properties.
The calculation method is based on reports from ASHRAE.
The psychrometric chart
The psychrometric chart, or more precisely the Carrier chart, allows to determine the properties of an air-water mixture at constant pressure.
Through the psychrometric diagram it is possible to calculate all the physical properties starting from the ambient pressure and 2 generic physical quantities.
Base concepts
- Absolute humidity: the amount of water vapor contained in the air [kgwater/kgair]]
- Relative Humidity: ratio between vapor pressure and saturated vapor pressure at the same temperature. Simplifying it can be seen as the ratio between the water content of the mixture and the maximum content that could be present at the same temperature and pressure [%]
- Enthalpy: the total value of internal energy contained in the mixture [kJ/kg]
- Wet bulb temperature: the lowest temperature achievable by evaporating water into air at constant pressure. In other words it is the temperature reached by the air if subjected to water humidification up to saturation conditions. This process is normally simplified into an isoenthalpic transformation. [{{unitaMisura.Temperatura}}]
- Dew point temperature: the saturation temperature at the partial pressure of the water vapor, i.e. the temperature of the mixture in saturation conditions at the same absolute humidity. It can be seen as the temperature to which a mixture must cool before condensation begin to form. [{{unitaMisura.Temperatura}}]
- Specific heat: the amount of heat needed to raise or lower the temperature of 1 kg mass by 1°C [kJ/(kg*K)]
User guide
- Settings : allows you to customize the graph (colors, graduation steps, visibility and limits of the various properties);
- Processings : allows you to graphically represent transformations starting from 2 points. The points can be defined starting from 2 generic physical properties and can be connected via a straight line with or without an arrow; It is also possible, among the various options, to customize the type of line, the color, the names of the points and the type of marker. There is no point limit and it is therefore possible to show any type of physical transformation. You can also customize the name of the transformation by clicking above the text entry.
- Calculator : allows you to calculate all physical properties starting from 2 generic properties.
- Snap : allows you to customize the mouse snap to the grid (on/off, grid, custom step).
- Download : allows download in PNG or SVG format.
- Cloud : allows you to save, load and share the diagram complete of all the customizations and transformations entered. Obviously it is also possible to modify and delete saves already made. The links can be made public and therefore visible to anyone who owns the access link or private and therefore visible only to the account that created them. You can change the URL of a sharing link to adapt the interface language.
- Language : allows you to change the language of the page.
